Board of the Michigan Medical Acupuncture Association Meeting, February, 26th, 2008

The Board Members of the Michigan Medical Acupuncture Association met on Tuesday, February, 28^th, 2008 to discuss current issues related to the Michigan acupuncture registration law. Amanda Cihak was present and represented American Health Source and its coalition of professional trade associations, specifically the American Manual Medicine Association.  The MMAA board members were joined via conference call by out of state AMMA state chapter representatives and members of the American Health Source Advisory Board.

Key elements covered during the board meeting included:

• A review of the efforts of the MMAA to gain registration for its members.
• A discussion regarding issues related to the conduct of the acupuncture board and its members.
• A review of the letter received from the Michigan Attorney General's Office and minutes and records of the acupuncture board meetings gained through a FOIA request.
• Reports regarding administrative and legal avenues available to the MMAA in protections of its members' registration rights.
• The board received an update regarding the new state chapter forming in Indiana and that the Indiana chapter joins the current state chapters in Idaho, Illinois, Arizona, Florida, and Oklahoma.

The MMAA Board Members approved a 2008 seminar and member training program. Additionally, there will be a series of member meetings beginning in April 2008 for the purpose of reviewing Michigan law as it pertains to the legal practice of acupuncture via physician delegation and supervision.
